Here is the link to the eBird report for my Kyker Bottoms survey from
yesterday.  Included are photos of the Semipalmated Plovers and the
Short-billed Dowitchers.

Subject: [TN-Bird] Dowitchers, Plovers, and more at Kyker Bottoms.

I covered Kyker Bottoms (among other places) today for the
Blount County bird county.  I haven't finalized the report yet. (It's
been a long day.)  However, I want to get some still tentative and
preliminary information out for fellow birders.  In addition to some
nice finds such as Least Bittern, Prothonotary Warbler, etc., there
were some nice surprises in what I like to refer to as the “Sandpiper
Pool” on the north side of the Refuge.   It has been full of water
until recently, but is now beginning to have mud flats appear and is
coming into prime habitat again. It is, in my opinion, the best
sandpiper spot in Blount County.  In addition to one (and perhaps
both) species of yellowlegs and a flock of about 40 least sandpipers,
there were two other surprises.  There were three semipalmated
plovers, which have not been reported on eBird in the county since
2008.  There was also, tentatively, ten short-billed dowitchers,
which have never been reported on eBird for Blount County.  I am very
confident about the plovers and relatively confident about the
dowitchers.  I will post photos later so that y'all can convince me
that they are just snipe, but I don't think that they are.  It also
seemed that there might have been a larger peep or two mixed in with
the least sandpipers, but it was very difficult to find, isolate, and
focus on them through the weeds.

I will try to have the official eBird
report up by later tomorrow.
