I don't usually report feeder birds because the birds at my feeder are generally House Sparrows. But this morning as I scanned the hordes of House Sparrows, a touch of yellow caught my eye. When I came back to it, I thought at first it was just the effect of morning sun on a female House Sparrow. Then the birds in front of it moved and the bird itself turned toward me, showing a distinctly yellow breast. The birds flushed just then, but I've seen it since and it has a bit of black at the throat and a lot of reddish brown on the wing coverts. Dickcissels are nice birds in this area any time of year, but are uncommon in winter.
