Today was the first day I've gone out to try for fall woodland migrants and
had a very slow morning, with only a single American Redstart along the
Harpeth River Greenway and a Northern Waterthrush behind the Edwin Warner
Park Nature center by way of migrant warblers. It got better this evening
as I hiked the loop of the Warner Park Burch Reserve for the first time in
several months. There I had FOS Swainson's Thrush in the woods, and as I
attempted to approach a silent Empid near the "Meadow View Spur, " I had
Chestnut-sided, Blue-winged, and Golden-winged Warblers (one of each) fly
up together from the tall ironweed and goldenrod (which are beautifully in
bloom). Golden-winged is a new bird (#109) for the Burch Reserve for me,
which continues to be an under-birded hotspot which can occasionally be
very productive.
Good birding
