My Mom and I spent the day birding around Davidson county with pretty good
results. Here's a quick summation with Ebird links.
We started at Snow Bunting Peninsula where we ran into Graham Gerdeman. My
lifer Red-throated Loon dropping out of the sky was the bird of the day. Other
birds of note were several Lesser Scaup, and all the breeding plumage Common
Loons, Bonaparte's Gulls and grebes.
Next was Percy Priest Dam, but with not much around we headed to Cook's Rec
Area. At Cook's we found more breeding plumage Common Loons and Bonaparte's
Gulls. We also found a Killdeer nest with eggs on the shore.
Last stop was Vivrett Creek access area. Only birds of note here were a raft of
Lesser Scaup and a few shoveler and Blue-winged Teal.
On our way home we found a small flock of Wild Turkey on Earhart rd that
included a beautiful solid white (leucistic) hen.
