Posting for Harold Sharp. There is a dark plumaged Great Blue Heron hanging out near Chickamauga Dam in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co. The bird takes handouts from fishermen and has been around for over 3 weeks (according to the fishermen). The bird is being seen near the fishing pier up near the dam on the east side. The bird appears to be molting and is quite tame. A few photos by Bret Douglas: http://bretdouglas.smugmug.com/Photos/GBH/25644095nGS8S9 In a quick search, David Aborn found a few different records of similarly plumaged birds. Certainly not something you see every day! Cheers, Scott Somershoe State Ornithologist Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency P.O. Box 40747 Nashville, TN 37204 615-781-6653 (office) 615-781-6654 (fax)
