Farm Bill programs are America's single-largest source of conservation funding
for private lands.
According to the American Bird Conservancy, this legacy of conservation is now
in serious jeopardy.
The current version of the 2018 House Farm Bill (H. R. 2) will:
· reduce funding for effective Farm Bill conservation programs (by $800
million!),
· lead to further losses of scarce grassland habitat.
· eliminate the normal scientific review and public involvement for
nearly all logging;
· eliminate the current checks and balances that protect endangered
species' habitat.
· ignore science and exempt the approval of pesticides from the
Endangered Species Act
· put 97 percent of all listed birds known to be harmed by pesticides at
risk of continued exposure.
If you support bird conservation please write your congressman and urge him/her
to vote "no" on the Farm Bill if it still contains these harmful environmental
riders and funding cuts.
