The juvenile Curlew Sandpiper that was first found by Alan Troyer on
Friday August 26th in the Duck River mudflats at the Duck River Unit TNWR
is continuing through this forenoon, Wednesday, August 31st and moving
between the upper mudflats and the lower mudflats. (where a Whimbrel spent
a week in 2020).
A kayak or boat is still needed for any kind of decent looks at the bird
but at least the mudflats and the larger shorebirds were visible at the
location it was hanging this morning.
This is Tennessee’s fourth record and a first for Humphreys County. It is
also the first juvenile to be photographed in Tennessee.
