Instead of my typical spring visit to Fairfield Glade in Cumberland County,
this year I am currently making a fall visit. This past week migrant warbler
have been much more numerous than any of my prior spring visits. Of course
the summer resident warbler species have been more scarce than in the springs.
Yesterday and today brought relatively good thrush numbers to the area after
not finding any(except Bluebird and Robin) Monday thru Thursday. There have
been multiples of Swainson's, Gray-cheeked, and Wood Thrush and a single Veery.
Flycatcher seen this week include Eastern Wood-Pewee, Acadian, Least,
Eastern Phoebe, and Eastern Kingbird. Vireo seen include White-eyed,
Yellow-throated, Blue-headed, Philadelphia, and Red-eyed. I have had a few
birds flagged for being unusual on Ebird, including a Winter Wren which was
singing profusely behind the yard a few days ago and a Black-throated Blue
Warbler along Daddy Creek and the Overlook Trail(in Fairfield Glade) on Monday.
The Black-throated Blue Warbler appeared to be a 1st year bird, as its white
wing spot was not very pronounced. Otherwise it was a female. The
Fairfield Glade trail group which has constructed all the trails in the area
have done an outstanding job on the local trails and I have seen many migrants
along all the trails(North Trails(McGinnis Creek, Canyon, and Rotherham),
Overlook Trail, and Seven Bridges Trail) I have walked this week. In the
backyard and behind the backyard I have seen 12 warbler species this week.
Cumulative warbler totals for September 11 thru 16 are below for all Fairfield
Glade locations that I have birded this past week.
