A tufted titmouse is nesting a a nest box in our back yard. She had six eggs prior to incubation. Each time I checked during the incubation period, she refused to move off the eggs, and hissed and snapped at me. When I checked the nest on Saturday, I found one very large baby and only three remaining eggs. We strongly suspect that the nest has been parasatized. We found a definite cowbird in a prothonotary warbler nest only a few feet distant from this one. Is there any way to identify this chick as a cowbird?
