I birded Cove Lake today from 11:00 - 1:30. I took the left end of the loop past the picnic area at the end of the road, then turned onto the Beaver Workshop Loop trail and walked along a creek. The highlight was good looks of a singing Kentucky Warbler about 25 ft up a tree. This was seen where the main trail curves away from the marshy area. It was still singing further down the trail past the Beaver Workshop Loop trail sign when I came out from that trail and had moved back to the original area before I left. When I first heard it I was looking up for it whan a Red-Shouldered Hawk flew up off the ground in front of me and perched for a minute before diving back down for something. Along the creek were 2 pairs (or 1 pair moving) of Spotted Sandpiper. notables: Kentucky Warbler - 1 Prothonotary Warbler - 2 heard Common Yellowthroat - 2 heard Red-Eyed Vireo - 2 heard White-Eyed Vireo - 1 Swainson's Thrush - 1 heard Wood Thrush - 6+ (1 seen close) Eastern Wood Pewee - 1 Great Crested Flycatcher - 1 Baltimore Oriole - 2 (m,f) Red-Winged Blackbird Spotted Sandpiper - 2-4 American Goldfinch - loud tree-full Cedar Waxwing - 5 Northern Flicker - 1 Red-Shouldered Hawk - 1 Shane Williams - Knoxville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
