[TN-Bird] Confusing Scissor-tails, Many Great Egrets

A quick trip past the South Pittsburg Scissor-tailed flycatcher nest (on
Railroad Avenue near the HS athletic fields) revealed no activity or the
birds in that vicinity. The nest seemed intact.

A subsequent check of the 12th ave location near Hwy 72 where these birds
have been seen in previous years did, however, yield 4 birds in somewhat
confusing plumage on the utility wires about 1 city block's distance north
of the highway.

One of these birds was clearly an immature, as it was very short tailed.
Two others perched near it had "ragged" long tails and I would have thought
them immature males but the tails seemed too long. On the other hand the
clear immature did "scare" these two off their perch on the wire. The
fourth bird I would have termed an adult male based on tail length but it
seemed entirely too white below, with no sight of pink or salmon color
anywhere on the bird.

I hope someone with superior eyesight and experience with aging in this
species can sex and age the birds.

There were more than 50 Great Egrets in the flooded fields just south of
the Tennessee River (my flimsy excuse for reporting these slighly
out-of-state birds on this site) on AL 117 just south of Stevenson, AL in
the middle of the day today.
