A brief walk at the Cove in Concord Park in west Knox County this morning yielded three Common Loons. They were distant; a scope recommended but not necessary. I watched a Great Blue Heron struggling with a large fish before finally managing to swallow it. Also in the Cove at least 25 Bonaparte's and 120 Ring-billed Gulls. Half a dozen Pied-billed Grebes but no Horned were found. I had to go to the boat ramp a mile or so east of the Cove to locate three of them. Carole Gobert, Knoxville
