I was out in our yard in Norris, Anderson County, about 2 PM this afternoon
when I heard the croak calls of a raven. I then saw 2 ravens flying over
towards the south, several hundred feet above the ground. Their long,
wedge-shaped tails were evident and they continued calling as they went by.
I did not have time to run to the car to grab my binoculars before I lost
sight of them. A friend of mine who lives near the Chestnut Ridge
Landfill, a few miles to the south at the Raccoon Valley Road exit of I-75,
told me a few weeks ago that he was certain he saw and heard a raven near
the landfill on a couple occasions. This landfill draws large numbers of
Ring-billed Gulls during the winter.
