Any help watching for Common
Merganser chicks
in Greenbrier <http://www.smokies.ws/greenbrier/>
(Gatlinburg area) would be appreciated. Even without the ducks, it's a very
birdy area that is a pleasure to spend time in.
In Greenbrier t
here are two parking areas before the Ranger Station, one about 0.15 miles
in and one around 0.4 (
guesstimating from memory
), though much of the river can be scanned by car. Keith
Watson
believes the nest is in the lower section of the
Middle Prong
between the Eastern Parkway and
the Ranger Station
,
and more than likely below the first bridge just past the hydraulics
(
that very turbulent section of river past the second parking lot
)
.
T
his is the area to focus on, though in the afternoon the female adult has
been seen fishing further downriver.
