A friend was in the Smokies Thursday the 13t h and while passing by the Wye
near Townsend, where Little River and Laurel Creek meet, saw 12 Common
Mergansers, all immature/female types. I wonder if these are the brood from
Walland or Metcalf Bottoms? Or.........? If they are from Metcalf Bottoms, the
group picked up a couple of birds from June or I missed counting two. Here's
one photo made.
