DEC. 13, 2005
TVA Lake - Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN

A quick check at the TVA ponds at Ensley this afternoon, produced an
immature Common Merganser (pale loral stripe). It is a little late for the bird
 to
be holding this plumage and it is most likely a female because of the neck
coloration. The heat waves off the warmer water made the photos pretty blurry
but the loral area can be seen. The bird was in the eastern pond, while the
Red-breasted female seen Sunday is still in the larger western pond.

Still looking for a Long-tailed Duck or Eared Grebe for west TN year list,
293 and still hoping!
Good Birding !!!
