Phillip Casteel and I conducted the Old Hickory Lake CBC today, and part of
that route includes Coleman Pond, located in northern Davidson Co. (at the end
of Shepherd Hills Dr. off of Gallatin Rd near Rivergate Mall). With the
freezing temps, a lot of the other water bodies in the area have frozen over,
but Coleman pond was completely ice free. The resulting congregation of
waterfowl included 2 Snow and 4 Ross's Geese, 9 Canvasback, 1 Black Duck, 1
American Wigeon, along with Canada Geese, Bufflehead, Mallard, Ruddy Duck,
Gadwall, and Hooded Merganser. Temperature was a balmy 12 degrees.
