TVA has been rapidly drawing down Douglas Lake. As of this weekend, it will be possible to drive along the old RR bed across Rankin Bottoms to the TWRA gate (4x4 recommended). Plenty mudluscious habitat for any late shorebirds. I saw a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO along Hwy 107S in Del Rio today. At the house, we've had 2 female RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES at the birdfeeders for the past 2 weeks. Also seen here since last weekend: Pine warbler Black and white warbler Yellow-rumped warbler Brown creeper Rose-breasted grosbeak Golden-crowned kinglet Hairy woodpecker Blue-headed vireo Screech owl. We've heard BARRED and GREAT HORNED OWLS and a WOOD THRUSH off in the woods, and we're hosting a small gang of WILD TURKEYS.
