One Chimney Swift on October 27 and four on October 28 were seen over my
home in West Nashville around 6:00 p.m. CDT. The birds were casually
feeding over the house. I consider these birds to be some ten days
later than one would normally see the species here in the fall. The
late date for Nashville is November 13. My residence is not a special
location for late birds. The birds probably reflect a portion of a much
larger number of lingering swifts in the area influenced by the lack so
far of a sharp fall cold front.
