Manhattan Apartments, Oak Ridge, Anderson TN. 16th Sept ~20:00A mass of swifts swirling around at dusk, my estimate went from 200 to 400. When the swifts eventually went into a not very obvious looking 'ventilation' shaft I would put the total between 500 - 1000.

Old TN State Prison - 11,300 Chimney Swifts We returned there on September 11th and counting by groups of 25, recorded 11,300 swifts at they entered the huge chimney visible from the guardhouse. A spotting scope was used because the chimney is 1,500 feet from the guardhouse. Sterling Court Apartments - 1,400 Chimney Swifts The chimney is on the back side of this old apartment complex on the west side of Belmont Blvd at Compton Avenue. If you want to show someone a spectacle, this is an easy place to get a great view. The number of birds started to build shortly after sunset and were all in the roost 25 minutes later.
