August 1, 2004 Chickasaw NWR Lauderdale Co. TN I walked in on Sunday morning and found a nice spread of birds but the water fast evaporating from the pools. No White Pelicans and the egrets and heron numbers have receded with the water. The following count was made: Black-necked Stilt-1. Semipalmated Plover - 14, Killdeer-627, Greater Yellowlegs - 8, Lesser Yellowlegs-42, Solitary Sandpiper - 24, Spotted Sandpiper - 7, Semipalmated Sandpiper - 67, Western Sandpiper-1, Least Sandpiper - 651, Pectoral Sandpiper - 959, Stilt Sandpiper - 9, Short-billed Dowitcher - 6, and lastly a molting adult western subspecies of WILLET, photographed.
