[TN-Bird] Cherokee & Douglas, Sat

Spent a few hours around Cherokee and Douglas Lakes Saturday morning
(9 Nov 2002). Not much to report. Best birding was at Shady Grove
on Douglas Lake in Jefferson Co. I didn't check below either dam
for Black-crowned Night-Herons.
Cherokee Dam (Jefferson/Grainger Co., TN):
-- about 8 unidentifiable ducks seen briefly in flight from over 1.5 miles
-- a handfull of Ring-billed Gulls
-- one large 1st-year gull, that looked rather uniformly pale but was in
bright lighting, toward the sun and also over 1.5 miles away
Douglas Lake (including Dutch Bottoms in Cocke Co., TN, Shady Grove in
Jefferson Co., TN, and Douglas Dam in Sevier Co., TN):
-- Common Loon, 1 at Shady Grove
-- Horned Grebe, 4 at Shady Grove
-- Pied-billed Grebe, 30+ at Shady Grove and from Douglas Dam
-- Double-crested Cormorant, 2 at Shady Grove
-- Great Blue Heron, 100+ scattered around everywhere you looked
-- Green-winged Teal, 30+ at Dutch Bottoms (only duck other than Mallard)
-- American Coot, 1-2 at Shady Grove and a handfull of black specks
about 2-3 miles away in Jefferson Co. waters from Douglas Dam that were
probably coots
-- Herring Gull, 1 1st winter, 1 2nd winter, 1 adult, all at Shady Grove
-- Bonaparte's Gull, 2 at Shady Grove
-- Ring-billed Gull, 100+ scattered around
