Chattanooga Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society.

This is Update Number #18 made on October 5, 2004.

You can call the RBA at 423 -821-4381.

Fall migration continues with the first report of Philadelphia Vireo for the
Cravens House on October 4 (I did see one at Chickamauga Battlefield in
Catoosa co, GA on September 24) . Thrushes were also coming through with 2
Gray-cheeked, 10 Wood and 26 Swainson's. Nine Rose-breasted Grosbeaks were
also recorded. (Kevin Calhoon) A Red-breasted Nuthatch was heard for the
second report in our area over the last couple of weeks. The first was by
David Aborn at North Chickamauga Creek on September 29.

Some other arrivals include Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at Cravens House on
September 27. (Kevin Calhoon) Clyde Blum had one even earlier at his
residence in Sequatchie co. on September 24. Jonnie Sue Lyons had the first
report of Ruby-crowned Kinglet on October 5.

Jonnie Sue had a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO at Baylor School on September 25. Any
sighting of this secretive species is fantastic!

David Aborn banded a Gray-cheeked, Swainson's and Wood Thrush at his banding
station at Greenway Farms along North Chickamauga Creek on September 29. He
also banded his very first Blue-winged Warbler in TN on September 22.

Two Northern Waterthrushes, 2 Tree Swallows and a Marsh Wren were seen at
Standifer Gap Marsh on September 26. (Clyde Blum, Kevin Calhoon) Least
Bittern, Virginia Rail, Sora, Marsh and Sedge Wrens were seen at the marsh
on September 30. (David Patterson)
