You have reached Kevin Calhoon with the Chattanooga RBA, sponsored by the Chattanooga Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society. This is Update Number #10 made on April 26, 2003. You can call the RBA at 423 -821- 4381. An alternate plumaged AMERICAN AVOCET was seen briefly swimming along the locks above Nickajack Dam in Marion county on April 25. It was seen around 5:30 and not relocated after 6:00. (Dan Jacobson) Also in the area was a Caspian Tern, immature Herring Gull and two Bonaparte's Gulls. Six species of shorebirds were present at the Brainerd Levee on April 25 including Solitary Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper and two Spotted Sandpipers. Also an Orchard Oriole was singing along the dike. (Kevin Calhoon) At least one Semipalmated Plover and 6 Greater Yellowlegs were at the levee on April 23. (Clyde Blum) I have not had any further reports about the Painted Bunting at the residence of Margarite Fridl at 1`727 Skyline Drive in East Brainerd. If anyone hears of a later observation (last April 15) please let me know. The first report of Bobolink came from the Riverport area on April 24. (Dan Jacobson) The first report of Tennessee Warbler came from Lula Lake, GA on April 23. (David Aborn) A Rose-breasted Grosbeak was reported from Ooltewah on April 17, a Prairie Warbler on the 18th, and a Indigo Bunting on the 20. (Caro Fegarido) An American Bittern, Virginia Rail, Sora and Solitary Sandpiper were reported from Standifer Gap Marsh on April 18. (David Patterson) There is now some Peregrine Falcon activity below Chickamauga dam. Apparently a new female is present with the old male which has been present for several years. It is very possible that she is incubating eggs on the railroad bridge. (Harold Sharpe) DONT FORGET ABOUT THE NATIONAL MIGRATION COUNT ON SATURDAY MAY 10.
