John Sellars TOS regrets to inform others of the loss of our faithful friend
and member Vernon Charles Berry. Charles passed away October 30th. Charles
had served our country in the military before he & Erline married.
Charles was quite astute in noting his wood ducks on his farm pond, soaring
hawks, and was conscientious in attempting to foil squirrels and "bully birds"
from his seed eating birds of which he was so fond. If you were a starling or
grackle, you probably weren't welcome at his feeder! If I recall, neither was
the snapping turtle welcome in helping himself to the baby wood ducks welcome,
either!
Charles also noted the hummingbird's arrival and last seen dates.
Charles was a gem of a gentleman and will be sorely missed. His wife, Erline,
passed away Dec of 2005. He is survived by loving daughter, Harriet Jewell of
Atlanta GA.. A dedicated farmer, Charles was comical in his sense of humor,
loyalty to University of Tennessee, and loved to travel.
He and I always had a line we'd feed each other, "I am so glad you got to see
me..."
He is so right...we are all so glad we got to see Charles as a birder, farmer,
loving husband & father, and friend.
We bid Adieu to a dear friend.
