April 10, 2011 17 male Cerulean Warblers around the north end of Center Hill Lake. My husband John and I found 17 Cerulean Warblers in 7 different locations. Several were solo males at traditional breeding locations "on territory", one flock had 2 males, two flocks had 4 (or more) males. Two of the flocks had 4 or more Yellow-rump Warblers. One flock with one male also had Pine Warbler (1) Blue-winged Warbler (1) Also singing were numerous: Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Northern Parulas Yellow-throated Warblers Hooded Warblers Blue-gray Gnatcatchers Red-eyed Vireo (5) Worm-eating Warbler (3) Scarlet Tanagers (2) Black-and-white Warbler (1) Yellow-throated Vireo (1) Wood Thrush (1) (I believe many of these were territorial birds) The road to the Appalachian Center for Crafts is a traditional breeding spot for Ceruleans and we had a total of 7 males on that road. Unfortunately, it is also thick with female Cowbirds. We ran into Randy Hedgepath as we arrived at Edgar Evans SP and he said that Holly, the naturalist there, had been seeing Ceruleans for several days - I intend to get the details. Other birds of interest, including birds seen on the lake were: Broad-winged Hawk (3) Common Loon (3) Bonapart's Gull (1im) Forster's Tern (1) Osprey (1) Bald Eagles (2) Please keep your eyes out - the CERULEANS are back!! Send me your records or post them on Tnbird!! Melinda Welton Franklin, TN P.S. I also had a male Cerulean on April 8th, in Alabama on the south side of Monte Sano, near Huntsville, on the trail at the Burritt Museum, in a flock with Yellow-rumps, Black-throated Greens, Northern Parulas and several resident birds. =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
