Well, the old sprinkler on the shrubbery did it again today (August 21). With all the heat (90 F) and relatively dry weather, thought I'd see if I could draw in any early fall migrants. Initially got lots of cardinals, towhees, chickadees, titmice, and wrens taking sprinkler "leaf baths." Then amidst the crowd I spotted her--an immature Cerulean Warbler--first fall female, according to Dunn and Garrett's Warblers. Standard cerulean patterns with an all green back--no blue, no streaking. Woo-hoo! Time to starting looking for fall migrants and crank up that sprinkler late in the afternoon.
