We had an interesting trip to Adair Park in Fountain City on
Monday afternoon. A nearby house across the road from the park
has a 40 feet holly bush (tree?) w/ nice red berries on it. We
saw flock after flock of cedar waxwings descend on the bush,
feed, then hop over to (2) nearby large trees. We counted (84)
in one tree, (72) in the other, (48) on the ground directly
below the holly brush. There were nearly 300 all told. Wave
after wave took turns feasting on the bounty. Cars would go by &
stir up a flock w/ their bright yellow-tipped tails being very
prominent. These colorful, sleek birds are some of our favs, &
to see so many was really something.

At Beverly Park off Tazewell Pike Tuesday afternoon, we saw (5)
yellow-shafted flickers courting away, fanning their tails,
cresting their heads, & pairs chasing each other all about. The
yellow was much more noticeable @ the tail & feathers on their
back when they were "displaying."
