Hi TNBirders!

I have a new yard to report from! I have moved to Goodlettsville, TN. I have
been counting species here since April 27th. But I have just not taken time
to post any of my "Yard" birds.

For the past three weeks, since the morning of October 21st, I have heard
Great Horned Owls "sweet talking" each other most evenings and early
mornings. Two different pitches, one deep and low, the other a bit higher
pitch. One time I heard a third pitch as they were answering each other, a
third owl, perhaps? We also heard Barred Owls from the hills around our
house all summer, but recently we have not heard them here at the house. I
wonder if it is because the Great Horned Owl's in their romantic fervor have
taken up in same area the Barred Owls frequented in the summer?

My husband did hear a Barred Owl Sunday on our 60 acres of wooded hills
across the street. Our house sits in a hollow (or is that a holler) between
hills. When the turkeys or the owls take up their calls, it reverberates
across the holler and seems to have a natural amplification. It is really
very pleasant, especially the night calls, when there is little if any city
noise.

We have Turkeys in the yard almost every day, in flocks of 13 to 30. Lots of
Field Sparrows, and White-throated Sparrows. At first light this morning,
while I was walking my dogs, a Song Sparrow sang for me to get my tea
kettle.

However, the reason I started this post is because Sunday afternoon, Nov.
6th, I had my first Brown Creeper of the season. It was number 58 on my
"yard bird" list.

Tarcila Fox, Goodlettsville TN, North Davidson county.
