I visited Sequatchie Valley today looking for the flock of Brewer's Blackbirds that have been wintering there for several years. There are at least 20 or more birds there this winter. From Hwy 28, turn east on Sprouse Hill Road just north of Dunlap. Go left on Kelly Cross Road and you will soon reach the Johnson Family Farm and the Cookie Jar Cafe. The birds hang around the trees below the restaurant and in the muddy fields near the road. It is an excellent place for close views and one can usually use the car as a blind. I checked Nine Mile Road farther north in the valley for Rough-legged Hawk without success. In Chattanooga at Chester Frost Park, a large murder of crows was seen with several Fish Crows in the mix. I had no luck with Virginia Rail at the Standifer Gap Marsh.
