At 2:30 today I drove by Cove Lake State Pk. (Campbell County, TN)
and noticed that a group of gulls sitting in the middle of the lake
looked different than the usual Ring-Billed Gulls that show up here. I
turned around and went back hoping to see my first winter Bonapartes, and
was able to watch 12 gorgeous BONAPARTE'S GULLS gracefully fly around
and feed for the next hour. Nice treat for this County.
2 HORNED GREBES were present for the first record at Cove this
winter.
Fox Sparrows were holding a feeding frenzy under my feeders near
dusk.
