May 3, 2006 Humphreys County TN Duck River Unit, Tennessee Nat. Wildlife Refuge Some highlights from a State Parks birding workshop led by John Froeschauer and Richard Connors in Dickson and Humphreys counties TN: Bobolink - 80+ mostly males singing and feeding in wildlife plots Dickcissel - common and vocal Bald Eagles - two adults and one immature Osprey - on nest with mate in attendance Am.White Pelican - 11 in pump station area Veery - 3 - good views had by all group Gray-cheeked Thrush Spotted Sandpiper - 3 Great Blue Heron - 30+ nesting on island heronry Great Egret - 6 - fly in to island heronry Little Blue Heron -3 - fly in to island heronry- a tough call for us, some wanting Snowy Egret, but legs appearing all dark ( no "golden slippers") made us vote for Little Blue. 18 species of warblers & 92 total species for the day.
