COVE LAKE STATE PARK and EAGLE BEND FISH HATCHERY Birds today: March 19th, 2002 This am. in a flooded Cove Lake State Pk. (Caryville-Campbell County, TN) Jimi and I briefly observed the below species from the side of the highway and bridge at the park. (The park will be open tomorrow) There were several species of diving ducks close to the road in the little "low" place that now looks like part of the main lake. There were tons of ducks on the lake, many seen were very distant moving in and out of the tree line in a cove. Therefore, numbers are estimates with conservative figures. The torrential rains certainly made these guys happy. Between both locations we had 12 species of Ducks. * Denotes "Firsts for Spring" * Great Egret 1 4 Pied Billed Grebe *17 BLUE WINGED TEAL 50+ Lesser Scaup 38 Bufflehead 16 Hooded Mergansers 6 Wood Ducks 12 Gadwall 32 Ring-Necked Ducks * 2 RUDDY DUCKS 22 REDHEAD 12 Mallards 45 Am.
