The year's first few red-winged blackbirds and grackles began storming the feeders in my signif's downtown Kingston backyard midweek (Thursday?). Our feathered residents wait patiently for Ronnie to open the front door and scare off the blackbirds, then they have a few minutes to eat in peace before the mini-hoarde descends once more. The "battle" will be lost in just a couple more weeks, I suspect, and we can groundfeed the blackbirds away from the hanging feeders. (I'M NOT READY FOR SPRING YET!!!)
