Yesterday, I spotted an unusual shape perched on a wire while driving through
S. F. It turned out to be a Loggerhead Shrike. Since I was near the bridge
over the Wolf, decided to do some birding in the area. The Cliff Swallow nests
were empty, but still impressive. As I walked west along the trail, I heard a
call which confused me for a few minutes. Owl, Yellow-billed Cuckoo went
through my mind, when it finally became clear that it was a Black-billed
Cuckoo. It's been several years since I have heard one although the call
resembles that of old world cuckoos. A birding software check confirmed the
ID.
