Cross Creeks Wildlife Refuge (Dover/Stewart Co.)

A pleasantly cloudy afternoon in search of shorebirds, etc. revealed the
following:

1. A Black Tern frolicking over a mudflat with at least 3 species of swallows-
Northern Rough-wing, Barn, and Cliff

2. Several shorebirds with the following species well represented - Greater and
Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral Sandpipers, Least Sandpipers, Spotted and
Solitary Sandpipers

3. Great Blue Herons, a Green Heron, Double Crested Cormorants and Great Egrets

4. 30-40 Goldfinches and several Eastern Bluebirds surrounding a majestically
perched Red-Shouldered Hawk

5. Fields full of Red-winged Blackbirds, Indigo Buntings, American Crows,
Killdeer and Common Yellowthroats

6. Singles including Wood Duck, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, Ruby-throated
Hummingbird, Eastern Kingbird, Eastern Phoebe, Pileated Woodpecker, and a
Yellow-billed Cuckoo heard in the distance
