[TN-Bird] Birding advice, Padre Island, TX

So the family and I are taking a road trip and decided to head down to Corpus 
Christi and Padre Island to look for birds. Ideally, I would have done some 
preparation and studying before visiting such a birdy location, but, alas, 
planning is not my forte...
Any must-dos or must-sees? Should I go on a tour? Land or boat? What group of 
birds should I focus on? It's actually pretty overwhelming, but in a good way 
:-)
And it looks like one of the days will be bad weather; are there any good 
family-friendly indoor attractions (nature centers, etc)?
