[TN-Bird] Birding At The Honors Course

    Saturday morning March 5 from 8:30 until 11:30, eight members of the 
Chattanooga Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society roamed The Honors 
Golf Course (it is closed during the winter) in Ooltewah on a birding field 
trip. Those present included : Harold Birch, Ken Dubke, Carole Fegarido, Mike & 
Barbara McMahan, Alberta Oliver, Steve Snow & David Stone. A total of 39 
species were seen between 8:30 & 11:30 Am. I addition I saw 6 more species 
either before the group arrived or later in the day after the field trip had 
ended.
Bird species seen included:

Wood Duck
Mallard
Turkey Vulture
Cooper's Hawk;
Red-shouldered Hawk
Red-tailed Hawk
Killdeer
Morning Dove
Belted Kingfisher
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Downy Woodpecker
Eastern Phoebe
Blue Jay 
American Crow
Tree Swallow
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
Brown-headed Nuthatch
Brown Creeper
Carolina Wren
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Eastern Bluebird
American Robin
Northern Mocking Bird
European Starling
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Eastern Towhee
Chipping Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Song Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Northern Cardinal
Red-winged Blackbird
Common Grackle
House Finch
American Gold Finch


Birds I saw either before the group showed up or later in the day after they 
had left included : Great Blue Heron, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Northern 
                                                                                
                                                                              
Flicker, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Hermit Thrush and 
                                                                                
                                                                              
Brown-head Cowbird.


Misses (birds I had seen on the course lately) included : Purple Martin (2 
males seen Feb. 22 & 23 but not seen since), Wild Turkey, Pileated  
                                                                                
                Woodpecker, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Cedar Waxwing and Pine 
Warbler.
