A morning birding walk ending at 12:25 P.M. on my property in Birchwood
(Hamilton County) was fruitful. Three first-of-the-season species were
identified. They were a Winter Wren, two Hermit Thrushes, and a Golden-crowned
Kinglet. Two Ruby-crowned Kinglets were also noted. Three Tennessee Warblers
and at least seven Yellow-rumped Warblers were seen. Several of the
Yellow-rumped Warblers and several Carolina Chickadees were busily eating
poison ivy berries! Sixty-eight individual birds from 24 species were observed.
