Some morning birding on my property in Birchwood (Hamilton County) and some
late-day birding at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge Viewing Area in Meigs County
at Birchwood produced some good fall observations. Twenty-two species were
recorded on my property. Some of the highlights were: 8 Chimney Swifts, 2
remaining Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, a male and a female Hairy Woodpecker, one
Wood Thrush, and 4 Magnolia Warblers.
At Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge, nineteen species were confirmed. I was able to
identify four warbler species, but I saw a few other warblers so briefly that
no confident identification was possible. Three Pine Warblers and 3 Palm
Warblers were logged, as well as 1 American Redstart and 2 Magnolia Warblers.
