Thought you'd all like to see the Big Bald banding totals (does not include
raptors). We are also on the IBA site for Tennessee and, thanks to Mike
Bierly, you can find hawk totals there as well as previous year's data.
Many thanks go out to all who helped this year, especially Mark Hopey and
Kathy Gunther, who together basically ran the station through the week and
have brought the addition of the raptor banding project to the Bald. To
Lynn Brandon, for doing just about anything she was asked to do, Joe
McGuiness and the USDA Cherokee National forest for financial and logistical
support, and Tommy Edwards (TWRA). I also want to thank my mom Cleo, for
coming back this year after missing the season following dad's passing. She
realized just how much a part of her life birds had become over the last 40+
years with dad! There are many others that helped and I can't mention them
all her, but without the help of many people this project could not
continue. If you'd like to participate next year, drop me a line. Snow
Bunting, banded by Kathy on the last day of the season (11/1) was probably
our best bird for the year. I believe it is a first record for us though I
seem to remember that the Herndon's had a record on file with the Herndon
chapter records from Big Bald. As always, Tennessee Warblers,
Black-throated Blues, Swainson's Thrushes and Juncos were most abundant.
