Bells Bend - Old Hickory Blvd. Sod Farm, Davidson Co., TN Sunday 2014 Aug. 31 9-9:55 am heavy overcast after overnight rains After going to Bells Bend yesterday afternoon and only finding a flock of 138 KILLDEER, I decided to try again this Sunday morning to see if more shorebirds and perhaps a tern or two would show up. At the sod farm near the end of Old Hickory Blvd a very large pond of water had formed from yesterday evening's and last night's rains. There were no terns there but I did find a nice variety of shorebirds, 8 species, the best of which was a single WESTERN SANDPIPER that flew in to a small relatively close wet area, fed briefly, and then vanished. Shorebirds: Killdeer 28 Spotted Sandpiper 2 Solitary Sandpiper 1 Greater Yellowlegs 7 Least Sandpiper 7 Pectoral Sandpiper 3 Semipalmated Sandpiper 1 Western Sandpiper 1 There was a large flock of at least 110 AMERHCAN CROWs between two of the sod fields.
