I birded Bells Bend this morning from 7-11, much of that time with Scott Block. We saw the usual suspects, including Field, Henslow's (1), Savannah (1), Swamp, Grasshopper (heard only), White-throated, and Lincoln's Sparrows (1). Chats were plentiful, as were Prairie Warblers, Common Yellowthroats, and Indigo Buntings. Palms were not too far behind. We had a few Orchard Orioles, including a first- summer male, and a female Summer Tanager. My FOS birds were: Yellow- billed Cuckoo, Catbird, and Northern Waterthrush, the latter along the creek found where the trail past the barn dead ends at the river bottom. Afterwards I went to Beaman with low expectations since it was nearing noon, but I had quite good luck and added five more FOS birds: Wood Thrush, Swainson's Thrush, Veery, and, best of all, a Blackburnian and a Bay-breasted Warbler, both of which were on the Sedge Hill Trail almost to the visitor's center and singing.
