We got only 2" or less of snow here in Bellevue on
the SW side of Nashville, but it meant that
there was little open ground for birds looking for
seed, so my feeders had birds at them that I usually
see on the ground. A pleasant surprise was my first
of the season CHIPPING SPARROW. Also in attendance
were 2 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, one an adult and one
an immature that has not even begun to change into
adult plumage. Does anyone know about when their
change begins? Also high above ground at the feeder
were SONG SPARROWs, an EASTERN TOWHEE, RED-WING
BLACKBIRDs, and EUROPEAN STARLINGs. A great morning
to be inside and enjoy nature. The cardinals and
juncos looked wonderful against the white background.
