This afternoon while walking at Red Clay State Park - in Bradley county I,
along with Betty & Bill Wampler, found a stick nest with three huge downy
nestlings.
Neither of the parents were on/ or nearby the nest. We went about 400 feet
away and sat in a pavilion watching. Two of the nestlings were out of the nest
and precariously balancing on some of the sticks forming the nest. These were
obviously owls.

While sitting quitely in the middle of the pavilion the two young who were
outside of the nest either jumped or fell. It was ten minutes before one of
the parents (a Barred Owl) flew back to the nest with a meal for the surviving
baby. One of the babies was alive - standing begging for food/help. The
ranger made some calls and hopefully could find someone who would come to the
rescue. We left. Too much sadness today.

We felt it better not to "bother" the fallen babies.
