Yesterday, April 26, at The Cove at Concord Park in west Knox County, TN I had several great looks at a male Baltimore Oriole as he flew from perch to perch and sang; he used several different kinds of trees including tulip poplar and pine and was pretty much in evidence the whole time I was there. Gorgeous bird. I guess there could have been more than one but I only ever saw/heard one at a time. (Someone had posted a Baltimore Oriole here on eBird on, I think, April 25). Just before I left I came upon an even more interesting sight... a female Baltimore Oriole on a dead tree lying in the water. A male Mallard was sitting on the tree quacking (the local ducks frequently hang out on this fallen tree). And two Carolina Chickadees seemed upset with the oriole and were harassing her. She appeared to be gathering nesting material from the tree trunk, thin strands of vegetation, and at one point paused to sing a short snatch of song. She flew into, or perhaps past, a tulip tree on the bank beside the fallen tree but I lost her at that point. I waited around for a while but she did not reappear and I had to leave for the office. Also of interest were two Eastern Kingbirds being chased around by a Northern Mockingbird. The osprey pair were both at their nest at the Yacht Club and a couple of Barn Swallows were flying around the Cove.
