Jan. 23, 2008 Shelby Farms Shelby Co. TN plus W. TN I made a detour by Patriot Lake while passing through the farm, checking for Cackling Geese. I found only the pair that returns there every year but noticed all the various flocks were looking up. High above, circled an adult Bald Eagle. A few photos and it was off to the southeast. A nice bird for the middle of town. Last week, I walked down to a hidden area on McKellar Lake and counted 382 Greater Scaup. They are being forced to roost there as they are dredging TVA Lake and the numbers of scaup usually there are down due to the disturbance but Robco Lake is covered with ducks. The lack of numbers of ducks and gulls on Reelfoot Lake last week was baffling but Snows and Greater W-f Geese are using the Black Bayou area in huge flocks and the Eagles are having a field day Good Birding !!!
