For the past few weeks, we have been hearing a strange sound in our
backyard at night. It sometimes sounds like a bird call, and sometimes more
like a cat meowing to be fed. The source seems to be moving around, but we
can't see anything or hear any noise of movement. It's just single
"yeow"-like sound, repeated at about 30-second intervals. Sometimes it's
fairly loud and sometimes almost like a whimper. It doesn't seem to be
bothered by our presence. I stood out there and called, "Kitty, kitty"
softly in answer to it a few times, but it didn't seem to affect the
frequency or volume of the sound. I aimed a flashlight up in the trees as
well as into the brush, but never caught an eye-shine. Any thoughts?
