Hi all, I noticed a bird with a yellow rump doing a lot of tail-waging in my backyard yesterday. I stepped outside and got a good look at 2 Palm Warblers. Referencing National Geographic's field guide, both warblers have color variation of western breeding Palm Warblers. They would forage about 20 feet off the ground in the trees and also on the ground. This area is in the Bluebird's nestbox "territory". The male BB would promptly make the Palms depart from his choice perches. There are 5 eggs in the BBs nest and if my calculations are right Sunday they might hatch. At the same time, two Downy Woodpeckers were flying from tree to tree, the male in pursuit of the female. She finally stopped at the end of a broken branch of an oak tree, then he walked over to her. I was privilaged to witness them engage in mating. After, they appeared to look at each other then the chase began again. He tired quickly of the chase then flew to the suet cake.
