I decided to spend a little time this evening and take a look and see what's going on in the backyard. Best bird was a Bay-breasted Warbler, male in breeding plummage- foraging in the trees in the backyard. Other notibles include a breeding pair of Summer Tanagers, have not seen Scarlet yet this year. The tanagers have been here for about a week. Several Orchard Orioles, both male and female. At least two Wood Thrush are in the area. I had one land close to me while another sang from further down the gulch. Male Indigo Bunting. Heard not seen Yellow-billed Cuckoo. We recently uncovered a wet spot in the yard where we had piled up leaves from last fall. The robins are having a great time pulling up huge worms the thickness of my pinkey and about 6" long. They look like small snakes! We've had abundant rainfall this year and it shows in the lushness all around.
